Espresso Martini

Vodka, Kahlúa and a double shot of espresso, shaken hard. The shot goes in the freezer first, so the ice chills the drink instead of watering it down.

Yield
Makes 1 drink
An espresso martini in a stemmed martini glass, a thick pale crema on top with three espresso beans in the center, an espresso machine behind it

Method

  1. Pull a double shot of espresso and put it straight in the freezer. Hot espresso melts the ice in the shaker and waters the drink down. Cold espresso doesn't.

  2. Once the shot is cold, add the vodka, Kahlúa and espresso to a shaker with ice.

  3. Shake it hard. That's where the foam on top comes from.

  4. Strain it into a martini glass and float 3 espresso beans on top: one each for health, wealth and happiness.
